At least one person is dead and a man is in custody after a speeding vehicle plowed into a crowd of pedestrians in New York City’s busy Times Square Thursday.
The 26-year-old driver was taken into custody and was being tested for alcohol, the law enforcement official told The Associated Press. He has a history of driving while intoxicated, the official said.
A witness tells Fox News the car was driving the wrong way before crashing into the pedestrians and settling on steel sidewalk barriers at around noon ET.
A photo posted by a Twitter user shows a smoking and heavily damaged car wedged on a sidewalk barrier.
