At least 1 dead, driver in custody after car plows into Times Square crowd

At least one person is dead and a man is in custody after a speeding vehicle plowed into a crowd of pedestrians in New York City’s busy Times Square Thursday.

The city fire department tweets that there are 19 people injured at the scene, and police are investigating what they believe is an “isolated incident.”

The 26-year-old driver was taken into custody and was being tested for alcohol, the law enforcement official told The Associated Press. He has a history of driving while intoxicated, the official said.

A witness tells Fox News the car was driving the wrong way before crashing into the pedestrians and settling on steel sidewalk barriers at around noon ET.
