Barry Gibb says man tried to molest him as a child

Bee Gees star Barry Gibb has said a man tried to molest him when he was four years old.

The 70-year-old singer-songwriter and producer revealed he was interrogated by police after the attempted abuse.

“There was a moment in time when a man tried to molest me when I was about four years old,” Gibbs told Radio Times.

“He didn’t touch me, but other things happened, and happened to other kids.”

Gibb gave little details of the experience, over fear it “would be unpalatable”, and questioned himself over whether he should be revealing it in the first place.

“I’ve never said this before, Jesus Christ, should I be saying it now?,” he asked.

“Eventually they came and arrested him, and they woke me up during the night. Four years old and a policeman on your bed at four in the morning, interviewing you,” he added.

“If that doesn’t teach you about life, nothing does. But it’s vivid for me still. I’ve never told anybody.”

Gibb’s interview came ahead of his Pyramid Stage appearance at Glastonbury on Sunday, where he will play in the festival’s Legends slot alone.

The Bee Gees were a pop group formed by the three Gibb brothers, Barry, Robin and Maurice.

The brothers were born on the Isle of Man and raised in Manchester before moving to Australia in 1958.

Robin died in 2012, nine years after his twin Maurice, who died aged 53.
