PITTSBURGH – Are you ready for more matinee magic?
If the history from the opening two rounds means anything, Ottawa Senators fans should settle in for the long haul and some late afternoon/evening celebration.
The Senators are 4-0 in games that start early. All four have gone to extra time.
In Game 2 of the opening series against Boston, Dion Phaneuf scored the winner 1:59 into overtime at Canadian Tire Centre to give the Senators a 4-3 victory.
In Game 6 against Boston at the TD Garden, it was Clarke MacArthur who ended the series, beating Tuukka Rask at the 6:30 mark of extra time.
The arrival of the New York Rangers in the second round also brought some more afternoon delight for Senators fans.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau capped his four-goal explosion at the 2:54 mark of double overtime, giving the Senators a 6-5 victory and a 2-0 series lead.
A week later, the Senators were at it again. Kyle Turris netted the winner in a 5-4 victory over the Rangers, scoring at 6:28 of overtime to give the Senators a 3-2 series lead.
