Dog Photographer of the Year awards

The Dog Photographer of the Year winners have been revealed and the photos are as adorable as you would expect.

The competition, which is run by the Kennel Club, received more than 10,000 entries this year from all over the world.
The overall winner was Maria Davison from Portugal, who started taking pictures of her pooches and other pets only three years ago.

Upon receiving the award, Maria said she was especially proud because the image was close to her heart.

“It was not only a beautiful, real and candid moment I got to capture, but also a demonstration of the strong bond between one of my closest friends and her dog, Yzma,” she said in a statement.

There are ten categories in the competition, including Portrait, Man’s Best Friend, Dogs at Play, Dogs at Work, Puppy, Oldies, Assistance Dogs and Rescue Dogs. The other two awards are for the budding photographers out there. The ‘I Love Dogs Because…’ category is for teenage entrants and the Young Pup Photographer award is dedicated to dog lovers under 11-years-old.

The winner of the Assistance Dogs category was Alisdair MacLeod from Ayrshire, Scotland who captured retired greyhound Megan visiting a local care home resident Duncan – who is a 95-year-old veteran.
