The former child star appears on the cover of Vanity Fair’s March issue ahead of the release of her new film Beauty and the Beast.

Emma, 26, smoulders in the artistic shoot which shows her stand before the lens with only a white caged bolero protecting her modesty.

In the cover shot she can be seen wearing a flouncy white gown along with the tagline “not your mother’s Disney princess”.

Inside, Emma – who originally shot to fame playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films – opens up on growing up in the spotlight.

The infamously staunch feminist also revealed that unlike many of her peers, she has no interest in winning approval via awards.

She explained: “I couldn’t care less if I won an Oscar or not if the movie didn’t say something that I felt was important for people to hear.”

Emma was reportedly originally offered the role of Mia in box office hit La La Land.

According to the New York Post, she missed out in the end due to being “too demanding”.

The part eventually went to Emma Stone who picked up the gong for best actress at this year’s Oscars.

Her latest flick is a live action retelling of the classic 1991 Disney cartoon of the same name.

In it, she plays the female lead character Belle who finds herself imprisoned in an enchanted castle by a beast (Dan Stevens).

For the first time, cinemagoers will get to hear Emma sing.

Fans were given an early treat when a singing doll of her character included some of the bars of Emma singing the song Something There.

The appearance of the toy however drew unkind comparisons to Canadian singer Justin Bieber.

Describing her character, Emma told Vanity Fair: ”[Belle is] absolutely a Disney princess, but she’s not a passive character – she’s in charge of her own destiny.”

Beauty and the Beast is due for release in UK cinemas March 16.

The highly anticipated feature also stars Kevin Kline, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Sir Ian McKellen, Stanley Tucci, Emma Thompson and Ewan McGregor.
