GEORGE Shelley, who rose to fame as part of boyband Union J, has been announced as the latest guest star on ITV comedy Benidorm.
The 23 year old has confirmed his cameo role on the long-running series.
George’s scenes will air next week, as part of the ninth series of the comedy.
The singer is set to play Giles, a university friend of Rob Dawson (played by Josh Bolt).
Rob’s grandmother owns 5 star hotel The Solana and he’s trying to keep control of it whilst she’s away.
As it all goes wrong as he ends up a little worse for wear, he has a chance meeting with George’s Giles.
Will the character ensure he doesn’t go astray?
Or will he be an even worse influence?
George said of his upcoming role: “It’s a cameo. It involved a lot of laughing. The role is funny.”
Other guest stars coming up this series include Dame Joan Collins, Madness, Jason Manford, Amanda Barrie and Uri Geller.
The news about George comes just after it was revealed that Benidorm star Tim Healy “almost died” while filming the new series.
Tim plays the programme’s loveable drag queen Lesley and was in the midst of filming scenes for the show when he was struck down by a mystery illness.
The show’s writer Derren Litten has revealed that Tim “flat lined” and was put into intensive care for a month.
“They operated on Tim and it didn’t go well at all. He died. He flat lined,” Derren said.
“They had to resuscitate him. He was in intensive care for a month.”
Darren continued to Cool FM Spain: “He was incredibly unwell. We had shot about three episodes with Tim.
“I got a phone call from Tim’s wife, Joan, at the hotel and she said he was unwell, doubled up in pain and can’t move.
“I jumped into my car and went down there. He was in a pretty bad way.”
Tim was taken to a private hospital and was in a coma for days.
His ex-wife Denise Welch reportedly flew to visit him after it was reported he was “fighting for his life”.
Once his condition stabilised, he flew to a hospital in Manchester.
Tim was then written out of series nine, before making a full recovery and returning for filming of series 10 early this year.
Benidorm continues next Wednesday at 9pm on ITV.
