The musical output of composer Lou Harrison is so vast and varied that the year’s centennial celebrations have had to split off into thematic groupings. Already we’ve had concerts focusing on his piano music, his chamber works and more, including a wonderful February concert presented by Other Minds that joined him with the Korean composer Isang Yun.
To follow up, Other Minds is now dropping the other shoe in the form of a program devoted to Harrison’s music for gamelan. The headline event is “La Koro Sutro,” Harrison’s big choral work on texts in Esperanto, but there’s also the Suite for Violin and American Gamelan, with violinist Shalani Vijayan, as well as smaller works for cello, organ and harp. Nicole Paiement conducts.
Other Minds: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20. $12 for students, $20 general admission. Mission Dolores Basilica, 3321 16th St, S.F. (415) 934-8134. www.otherminds.org
