Around the Bay Area, it’s the tech startups that get all the attention. But the entrepreneurial spirit is just as vibrant in the arts. Take, as just one example, Black Box Baroque, a fledgling company that started up a few seasons ago to offer shoestring productions of Handel operas.
With three full-scale productions under its belt, the company is now turning to an even more light-footed undertaking. The upcoming performances of Handel’s “Aci, Galatea, e Polifemo,” done in conjunction with the Albany Consort, feature a cast of just three singers, a chamber orchestra, and the high musical values for which the company has become known.
“Aci, Galatea, e Polifemo”: Full production with orchestra. 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 21. $20-$30. Christian Science Organization, 2601 Durant Ave., Berkeley; Reduced length with orchestra. 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 24. Free.
