The Eastside Arts Alliance and Cultural Center in Oakland is working year-round to provide gallery exhibitions, public art projects, youth classes and other cultural programs. But the group’s centerpiece public event is the Malcolm X Jazz Arts Festival at San Antonio Park.
This year’s free event, the 17th annual festival, once again features music, dancing, speakers, food and more community celebrations. Performers include Nu Dekades, David Murray, the Zaccho Dance Theater, Elmhurst Community Prep Dance Squad and the Trumpet Summit to Dump Trump led by Geechee Taylor.
Malcolm X Jazz Arts Festival: 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, May 20. Free. San Antonio Park, 16th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard, Oakland. www.eastsideartsalliance.org
