Oklahoma City Thunder forward Enes Kanter said Saturday that he’s being detained at an airport in Romania because the Turkish government canceled his passport.
Kanter said in a Twitter video that he has been detained at the airport by police for hours.
“The reason behind it is just, of course, my political views,” Kanter said. “The guy who did it is Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Turkey. He’s a bad, bad man. He’s a dictator.
“And he’s the Hitler of our century.”
Kanter, who turned 25 on Saturday, could be deported back to Turkey, where it’s possible he could be arrested.
Erdogan visited the White House earlier this week. During the president’s visit, protesters outside the Turkish Embassy were beat up by bodyguards, according to Washington, D.C., metropolitan police.
Thunder officials have told ESPN that they are working with the league office and gathering information through appropriate channels.
