A residential block in the Park City section of Knoxville was shut down late Wednesday night as firefighters battled a blaze at a vacant house.

Crews responded at about 11:30 p.m. to a report of a fully involved house fire at 2814 E. Fifth Ave., which is between North Hembree and Milligan streets.

No injuries were reported in the fire, according to a news release from Knoxville Fire Department Capt. D.J. Corcoran. 

Crews remained on scene at about 12:30 a.m.

Police said on Twitter that the firefighting efforts had shut down the 2800 block of Fifth Avenue. It was expected to reopen by 2 a.m.  

According to the release, witnesses told fire officials that there was known homeless activity around the vacant structure. The incident is being investigated as a “set fire,” the release states.

It was not immediately clear how seriously the house was damaged.
