“Orange is the New Black” star Danielle Brooks just hinted on the possibility of leaving the Netflix series after Season 7.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress, who plays the role of Taystee, said that she wants to do other things beyond playing the role of an inmate. “To be honest, I don’t know if I want to play an inmate past that. I don’t know if I want to do that because I have a lot in me and a lot that I want to share with the world and different characters I want to be able to bring to life. After seven, I think it might be time for me to spread my wings, but I don’t want to speak too fast on that,” she said.
Taystee played a huge part in “Orange is the New Black” Season 5, which streamed on Netflix on June 9. In the installment, Taystee started a riot at Litchfield prison as a way of giving Poussey (Samira Wiley) the justice she truly deserved. However, Taystee’s attempts ended up in vain since no one from the higher-ups took notice of her efforts. In fact, Season 5 ended with the inmates being transported by vehicle to another prison. They will be sent to different facilities, and their lives there will be the major storyline for Season 6.
When asked what she wants to happen to Taystee in Season 6, the actress said that she doesn’t want to preempt any storylines for the character. After all, she’s always surprised with how the writers come up with exciting stories not only for Taystee, but for everyone.
“At first, I was dying for each script and wanting to know what happens next. It was almost like Christmas where you want to sneak a gift the night before. Now, I’d rather wait and I’m opening the gift wrap slowly, because I’m trying to take it all in and I know that we’re getting closer to the end – or at least, I think,” she said.
“Orange is the New Black” has been renewed by Netflix for Seasons 6 and 7.
