“The Vampire Diaries” alum Paul Wesley directed “Shadowhunters” Season 2, episode 16. Ahead of its premiere, the actor shared details about what “A Dark Reflection” will really be all about.
While speaking with TV Line, Wesley said that the upcoming installment will primarily focus on Valentine (Alan Van Sprang) and Sebastian’s (Will Tudor) relationship. In the previous episodes, it was revealed that the two are related to each other by blood. According to Wesley, Sebastian feels very betrayed by his own father.
“We’re left with just a son who feels very betrayed by his father, like he’s been abandoned. It ultimately comes down to two very human characters. Yes, it’s intermixed with supernatural themes, but it all comes down to humanity,” he said. Wesley added that he also had a blast directing the two actors since they are really good at what they are doing.
But other than Valentine and Sebastian’s storylines, Wesley is also very thrilled that the people behind the hit Freeform series entrusted him with a very important episode. “I guess they foolishly put some faith in me,” he joked.
Meanwhile, Wesley, who played the role of Stefan Salvatore in “The Vampire Diaries” for eight seasons, has experienced so many things on set. But one of his firsts is being on the set of a series while battling fever. “I had a 103-degree fever while we shot all the location scenes with Dom and Kat. I was physically destroyed by the flu by the time we got to the cabin, which we shot towards the end of the run, so I was happy to be inside,” he said.
In other news, “Shadowhunters” Season 2, episode 17 will also focus on Clary (Katherine McNamara) and Jace (Dominic Sherwood) going on a mission to find one of the missing Mortal Instruments: The Mortal Mirror. Clary and Jace would have to make sure that they are the first two to find it because there could be grave danger if it falls on the wrong hands.
“Shadowhunters” Season 2 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on Freeform.
