Rappers Put An End To Feud On Instagram

The long-standing beef between two of Toronto’s biggest hip-hop stars — Drake and Tory Lanez — has finally come to an end. After feuding in songs and interviews, Drizzy and Lanez have squashed their beef.

The two took to Instagram on Thursday to post the same photo of them standing next to each other with different captions. “The city needs more of this and less of that,” Drake’s caption read, while Lanez wrote, “Toronto… I Told U.”

It’s uncertain when and where the photo was taken but the moment was captured by New York-based photographer Josh Farias who goes by @midjordan on Instagram. Farias uploaded another photo of the two that features Tory Lanez flashing the middle finger at the camera.

The beef between the artists began in 2010 when a then new to the scene Tory Lanez issued a challenge to Drake, claiming that if the “More Life” rapper heard his music and didn’t like it, he would pay Drake $10,000. The “Passionfruit” artist never acknowledged the challenge and it appeared Lanez harbored some ill will.

In 2015, Lanez released his mixtape “The New Toronto.” The title made some hip-hop fans believe the rapper was taking shots at Drake which eventually led to Drake mentioning the mixtape in his song “Summer Sixteen.” “All you boys in the new Toronto want to be me a little / All your exes know I like my O’s with a V in the middle,” he rapped in it.

A few months later, Lanez continued taking shots at Drake, this time saying that calling Toronto “The 6,” wasn’t a cool thing to do. While Drake didn’t respond, a close friend by the name of P Reign did, telling Lanez to “behave” himself or he would have to remind people that Lanez was from Brampton — a suburb of Ontario.

Lanez continued calling out Drake in songs and interview through 2016 but the “Free Smoke” artist got the last laugh when he dissed Lanez on his 2017 song “Do Not Disturb.”

“If we do a song it’s like takin’ my kids to work with me / You overnight celebrity, you one day star / Swear ‘I Told You,’” Drake rapped, making references to Lanez’s debut studio album “I Told You” and his real name Daystar Peterson. “I am a reflection of all of your insecurities / Behind closed doors, a lot of 6 God worshipping,” Drake continued on the song.

The “6 God” rapper also took a shot at Lanez in the song “Sacrifices,” saying rappers from his city were “Wishin’ on a star” that they could be like Drake. “Sorry, no, not today, you gotta find your own way.”

In a 2016 interview with Zane Lowe, Drake spoke about unity between the city of Toronto. “Any time prior, ask me about anybody [in Toronto], I’m biggin’ ’em up. It’s our city, man. Why would you get up on a public platform and start being like ‘aaaaahh!’ Nah, man. And then what — just to come back and start backpedalling and begging it out?”
