Gwyn said about 9:40 a.m., Franklin police officers had been pursing a stolen vehicle along Lewisburg Pike and Henpeck Lane. At some point, police pulled out of the pursuit and deputies took over.

“As the vehicle went over the I-65 overpass, it stopped, the individual exited that vehicle, brandished a weapon, pointed it at deputies, and one deputy shot and struck the individual,” Gywn said.

The suspect died at the scene.

Williamson County District Attorney Kim Helper said the shooting suspect was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Williamson County. It was not immediately known what he was wanted for.

Gwyn said no deputies were struck by gunfire but one deputy suffered an injury to their leg. The extent of the deputy’s injury was not immediately known.

As of about 1:30 p.m. the bridge over Peytsonsville Road is closed over Interstate 65 near exit 61.

The southbound exit ramp at the Goose Creek Bypass was also closed.
