The most popular baby names in Texas for 2016

If you were named Emma or Noah and born in 2016, there’s a good chance you were born in Texas.

The Social Security Administration released its list of most popular names by state for 2016 and the Lone Star state is seeing something of a shakeup. 

WHAT’S IN A NAME: Most popular baby name in Texas the year you were born 

Jose, once one of the most popular names for boys in Texas, was in the top five in 2015. Last year, it slipped to No. 9.


Top names for boys in Texas are biblical, with Noah, Daniel, Matthew, Jacob and Elijah hitting the top 10.

For girls, Emma, Mia, Sophia and Olivia topped the list. 

The Social Security Administration started its most popular baby names in 1997. The agency tallies the names from Social Security cards submitted by parents on behalf of newborns.
