Three more charged in high-rise homicide, police issue Canada-wide warrants

Police are looking for three more people — two of them 16 years old — in the death of a young man who fell 16 stories from an apartment on Monday.

Earlier this week, Liban Gure, 29, was arrested and charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault in the death of Ahmad Afrah, 19.

Now, police have obtained arrest warrants on charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault for Daniel Jean Charles, 20; Nia Denton-Akpalialuk, 16; and Jahvon Bloomfield, 16. Normally an accused person under age 18 can’t be identified publicly, but police say they have obtained temporary authorization to name them during the search. All three are wanted on Canada-wide warrants.

Ottawa police is continuing its investigation into the Monday homicide on MacLaren Street. Three other people from Ottawa have now been charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault. From left to right: Daniel Jean Charles, 20; Nia Denton-Akpalialuk, 16; and Jahvon Bloomfield, 16.

Afrah was found lying on the ground outside 415 MacLaren Street Monday night in the city’s third homicide of the year. Police say he fell while trying to get away from a fight with another man in an apartment on the 16th floor.

Anyone who knows where to find the three other accused is asked to contact Ottawa police major crime unit at (613) 236-1222, extension 5493. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or by downloading the Ottawa Police app.
